Conclusions

We have implemented an interpretive language for the creation, manipulation, and linking of VRML scenes, and presented several example applications of this language. It is our hope that this effort will spur further development of VRML tools and applications and help to make the whole VRML effort a success.

For applications like the ones presented here, some extensions to the VRML specifications will be necessary. In particular, we mentioned multi-file DEF/USE as well as browser caching and client pull/server push features. To this end, we will distribute the browser source code to implement these features[8] and we will pursue these extensions in the public forums in the coming months.
